Repsol President Briefs Massachusetts’ Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy on Canaport™ LNG Project

Senator Michael Morrissey and Representative Brian Dempsey, Chairs of the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy invited representatives of Repsol Energy to attend a committee meeting in an effort to educate its members about Repsol’s project that will bring a new source of Natural Gas to Massachusetts.  The Committee met with Repsol Energy North America and Repsol Energy Canada President Phil Ribbeck at the State House on Thursday June 12.  Mr. Ribbeck briefed the members on the construction progress being made at the Canaport LNG facility, the first land-based LNG receiving facility on the North American Atlantic Coast in over 30 years. Canaport is an LNG receiving and regasification facility that is being constructed in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.  When completed, the project will be able to sustainably send out 1 bcf of natural gas per day.  The gas will access the US market through the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline (M&NP), where it will be delivered into the Tennessee Gas Pipeline system at Dracut, MA and Algonquin Gas Transmission system at Beverly, MA.

Chairman Morrissey was very impressed with the project and pleased to learn that a significant reliable and clean source of energy would be available to the New England market.

Repsol has been meeting with all of the state legislators and regulatory representatives in anticipation of their facility being completed at the end of this year.

Repsol encourages anyone interested in learning more about this new supply of natural gas coming into the Northeast U.S. and Maritimes Canada markets to visit its website at www.repsolenergy.com.  The website also includes contact information for the Repsol team in both the U.S. and Canada and information on their parent company Repsol YPF.
